Just look up. Are you ready to go beyond? The adoption, development, and optimization of advanced optical measurement techniques such as filtered Rayleigh scattering and thermal imaging are pivotal to Pratt & Whitney’s development efforts. These state-of-the-art diagnostic tools enable non-intrusive, full-field measurements, making them indispensable for characterizing complex flow fields in and around propulsion systems. This internship will focus on addressing key challenges across the entire measurement lifecycle, including pre-test prediction, rig testing and risk mitigation, post-processing, and data management, with the goal of understanding the accuracy, efficiency, and overall utility of these techniques. A cornerstone of this internship is the opportunity to engage with emerging experimental measurement technologies, collaborate with teams across RTX, and gain an accelerated understanding of the technology maturation process at Pratt & Whitney. This experience will provide invaluable insights into how cutting-edge diagnostic methods are developed and applied to solve critical challenges in aerospace engineering. Responsibilities may include working on tasks related to commercial engines, military engines or both depending on business need. May be required to obtain a security clearance. The Development Operations Organization is seeking a highly motivated engineering student to join the Advanced Measurements Research and Development group as a summer intern at the Middletown, Connecticut facility. This position provides challenging assignments that support the development of new measurement techniques and diagnostic capabilities used to verify the structural integrity of gas turbine engines. Depending on the assignment, responsibilities may include sensor development, hardware/software design and assembly, bench testing, electrical system design, algorithm development, instrumentation installations, test monitoring and report generation. Engineering Interns at Pratt & Whitney work on challenging, meaningful, and impactful projects across our business.
