About The Position

BASIC FUNCTION:Sonneborn, an HF Sinclair company, is seeking a motivated Safety Intern to join our Petrolia, Pennsylvania team. The Safety Intern supports the site’s Safety team by assisting with the organization, maintenance, and accuracy of safety documentation and digital resources. The position is designed for an early-career college student interested in learning how safety systems, document management, and communication workflows contribute to a strong and compliant safety culture. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: (functions considered essential as defined by ADA) Review and update safety procedures, SOPs, JHAs/JSAs, and work instructions for format, clarity, consistency, and compliance with established templates. Convert outdated or legacy documents to current approved formats, applying proper headings, numbering, required statement blocks, and accessibility features as needed. Maintain controlled document metadata: owners, approvers, effective dates, review cycles, and version numbers. Track periodic reviews and assist with routing procedures to their assigned owners for updates. Maintain a comprehensive master index of controlled safety documents, highlighting those past due or pending review. Archive superseded documents and ensure proper version-control practices are followed. Maintain the Safety SharePoint site structure, navigation, and content to ensure employees can easily find current safety information. Update document libraries, lists, metadata fields, and naming conventions to improve consistency and reduce duplicates or outdated materials. Post updated safety procedures, alerts, notifications, and safety‑related resources to relevant site locations. Conduct content hygiene tasks: remove obsolete files, correct broken links, and validate that controlled documents are accessible and properly stored. Assist with building and maintaining simple digital forms (near-miss forms, inspection checklists, action logs) using SharePoint lists, as directed by the Safety team. Assist with data cleanup and accuracy checks for safety records, such as incident logs, corrective action trackers, and inspection lists. Generate basic reports and summaries (Excel or SharePoint-based), such as overdue actions or upcoming procedure reviews. Assemble slide decks, spreadsheets, or data summaries for safety meetings or leadership briefings.   Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health. Completion of junior level courses is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow document templates and formatting standards.
  • Solid written communication and proofreading abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, especially Word, Excel, and SharePoint.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple documents and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Professional communication and willingness to collaborate with Safety leadership and procedure owners.
  • Familiarity with OSHA terminology or basic safety concepts.
  • Experience with controlled document systems, SharePoint metadata, or file taxonomy.
  • Exposure to incident tracking systems or learning management systems (LMS).
