About The Position

The Engineering Sciences Center is seeking a student intern to contribute to the understanding of the dynamic behavior of structures to operational and laboratory environments. We are looking for a highly motivated, team-oriented individual that is capable of supporting programs in this technical area. The successful candidate will have a strong technical interest in experimental structural dynamics and will be responsible for setting up and performing experiments and processing the resulting data. On any given day, you may be called on to: Assist staff members in structural dynamics, vibration, acoustics, shock, or solid mechanics testing Assist in processing data using various software systems, including MatLab, Python, LabView, SolidWorks, etc. Conduct directed research current state of the art in these fields utilizing scientific literature Help plan and design experiments, write reports in PowerPoint or Word Partner with Staff and graduate interns to support experimental projects

Requirements

  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program
  • Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
  • Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with vibrations, acoustics, structural mechanics, materials science, modal analysis, non-destructive testing, or structural dynamics laboratory testing
  • Strong verbal and communication skills
  • Ability to interact well with fellow technical workers of diverse technical background
  • Desired degree majors: Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, Optical, or Electrical Engineering or Engineering Physics

Responsibilities

  • Assist staff members in structural dynamics, vibration, acoustics, shock, or solid mechanics testing
