About The Position

Life Unlimited. At Smith+Nephew we design and manufacture technology that takes the limits off living. Smith+Nephew, a pioneering leader in medical technology since 1856, is seeking a creative, driven, intentional, and detail-oriented engineering student to join our R&D team for the summer. The Austin-based role will contribute to Sports Medicine product development. What will you be doing? Assisting in the design and development of a single-use precision mechanical assembly of machined metal parts and molded plastic components. Prototype sourcing, building, testing, and documentation. Contributing to manufacturing process optimization and test development. Planned Start Date: May 2026 Program Length: 3 months Location: Austin, TX

Requirements

  • Current biomedical engineering or mechanical engineering student with 1 or 2 semesters of education remaining to complete their intended degree
  • Proficiency in CAD software for 3D modeling and design (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Understanding and prior use of precision dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with machined metal and molded plastic components.
