About The Position

Life Unlimited. At Smith+Nephew we design and manufacture technology that takes the limits off living. The R&D intern program will consist of a robust induction plan followed by a 3-month internship across various facets of our Research & Development organization What will you be doing? Consults with the marketing staff, sponsoring surgeons, and manufacturing staff, as required, to facilitate proper design or products. Prepares design drawings and acts as a consultant in the preparation of final drawings. Designs electrical or software components to meet product requirements Provides technical support for manufacturing, quality, marketing and sales, as directed Provides R&D engineering support for Quality and compliance activities including correcting quality problems in released products, compliance with new regulations and standards, and remediation of quality finding. Provides R&D engineering support on existing products to identify and mitigate any impact to design integrity from process changes or supplier/network moves Initiates, performs as needed, and reviews in-house mechanical product (implant and/or instrument) testing in support of product design, regulatory submissions, manufacturing, quality, and sales support. Prepares and updates Project Schedules and coordinates team activities to deliver new product development milestones. Prepares Quality deliverables including inspection drawings and gage designs. Supports Manufacturing design transfer activities.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate Mechanical Engineering program.
  • Major GPA of 3.30 or above preferred
  • CAD experience or Electrical design schematics/layout or Software design/code experience beneficial
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment
  • High learning agility
  • Strong written and verbal communication and technical writing skills
  • Analytical approach to problem solving

Nice To Haves

  • Previous leadership experience is preferred
  • CAD experience or Electrical design schematics/layout or Software design/code experience beneficial
