The R&D Engineering Intern - Mechanical will consist of a robust induction plan followed by a 3-month internship in the Joint Repair Research & Development organization within the Sports Medicine Franchise at Smith+Nephew. What will you be doing? Develop/enhance your skills in solid model design, drafting, mechanical design, part fabrication, protocol development and testing while supporting active projects at the forefront of the arthroscopic tissue repair industry. Be introduced to key skills such as predictive finite element analysis, statistical analysis and fixture development while executing relevant projects within the biomechanical field. Be exposed to onsite product manufacturing, a fully capable rapid prototyping shop, result-oriented project teams, direct surgeon/cadaver lab interaction and a fast-paced, and innovative cross-functional teams which support all global new product development. Primary responsibilities include concept development, prototyping, product design, verification/validation testing including authorship of protocols and reports, and support through production scale up. Create and maintain design control related documentation such as risk and usability assessments, user needs, design Inputs, etc. Comply with requirements of design controls and other regulatory bodies.
