Position Overview Launch your career with a paid summer internship at Salinas Valley Health, an award-winning 263-bed acute care hospital serving Monterey County. The intern will support the Quality and Patient Safety departments by assisting with data collection, analysis, and reporting to drive quality improvement initiatives. Responsibilities include supporting event reporting processes, maintaining key metrics, and helping analyze clinical incidents. The intern will also assist with documentation, reporting, and development of educational materials, while collaborating with staff to promote a culture of safety, transparency, and data-driven improvement in patient care.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate degree program
  • Must be available to participate in at least 8 weeks of the 10-week program

Responsibilities

  • Assist with data collection, validation, and reporting for quality and patient safety initiatives
  • Support event reporting processes, including triage, categorization, and tracking of incidents
  • Help maintain and update departmental key metrics and performance dashboards
  • Assist in analyzing clinical incidents and identifying trends for quality improvement
  • Support development of reports, presentations, and summary findings
  • Organize and maintain patient safety and quality documentation
  • Track follow-up actions and support closure of event-related tasks
  • Attend meetings, take detailed notes, and support team communication efforts
  • Collaborate with Patient Safety and Quality staff to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement
