Intern - Purchasing
About The Position
During your internship at Alterman, you'll get the opportunity to work on exciting and significant projects, delivering quality work that has a positive and lasting influence on the community and the environment. You’ll also get a chance to work in a collaborative, team spirited environment focusing on building lasting relationships and continuous improvement. This internship will be focused on our purchasing group and interactions in the supply chain. The intern will work closely with out Tools/Logistics, Purchasing, Pre-Construction, and Job Site Solution Manager. They will get a glimpse into the life of an electrical contractor to see the impact distribution has on our business. This internship should provide great insight on what it takes to service one of the largest contractors in Texas and an opportunity to find ways to make Alterman more efficient. This will be some rotational, but mostly project based internship.
Requirements
- Must be a current student working toward degree in Industrial Distribution or Supply Chain Management
- Interest in pursuing a career in the construction industry
- Strong problem solving, and collaboration skills required
- Sophomore status or above
- Strong communication skills
- Attention to detail and organization skills
- Remain calm and focused in a constantly changing environment
- Ability to work within the hours of Monday through Friday between 8:00am-5:00pm Hours will vary and can be worked around course schedules.
Responsibilities
- Work with our Tool and Logistics to optimize warehouse and tools
- Work in purchasing on price analysis and vendor scorecards
- Assist Job Site Solutions Manager on Vendor Manage Inventory (VMI)
- Research new ways to optimize our business processes
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for new business processes
- Rotate through other departments to help synch communication with purchasing
