About The Position

Come join an innovative and creative staff of journalists at Marketplace. Marketplace is one of the most dynamic multimedia brands in the country, known for an irreverent approach to business and economic news on multiple platforms. We're looking for a journalism intern who is innately curious about raising the economic intelligence of our audience; driven to find new and compelling ways to tell stories both on the radio and on digital platforms; organized and detail-oriented; willing to experiment; and able to pitch ideas and thrive in a quick paced, dynamic environment. As the Production Intern at Marketplace, you will help us deliver our content to stations; to help them serve our audience. You will also work specifically on local content initiatives, including self-narrated series that draw from listeners across every state in the US and several local markets that do not have media outlets. Key Learning Goals: The goal of this internship is to provide immersive learning and real-world experience through impactful work. By the end of your internship, you will be able to: Learn how to work in a multichannel newsroom with different deadlines across the platform Learn to work on varied pieces for online, on-air, and social platforms. Develop the ability to cultivate new sources that are new to public media.

Requirements

  • Must be in the final year of an undergraduate or graduate program, or have graduated within the past 18 months.
  • Must be able to work 40 hours per week (Monday – Friday, 9:00 – 5:00pm) for the duration of this internship.
  • Experience with digital editing for interviews and tape selection.
  • Experience with writing for radio or for online platforms.
  • Experience working with a team to create daily content.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on an editorial team with deadline experience.
  • Must have the ability to multitask across several areas, including writing, cutting audio, researching, and filing on-air and online copy.
  • Must have strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Adobe Audition or similar digital audio software.
  • Self-starter with an appetite for learning radio.

Responsibilities

  • Identify new sources to expand our reach and relevance.
  • Write and deliver all local station content.
  • Cultivate regular interviews to build trust and engagement from our audience.
