About The Position

The office of the President is looking for a motivated intern for the summer of 2026 to assist with the review process for the Pivot Fellowship program. The Pivot Fellowship program supports researchers who have a strong track record of success and achievement in their current field, as well as a deep interest, curiosity and drive to make contributions to a new discipline. This is an outstanding opportunity for an individual interested in developing a career in science and math and learning more about grantmaking programs and the field of scientific philanthropy. This individual will gain insight in aspects of the grant review process, with a specific focus on coordinating the review process and assisting with identifying appropriate reviewers for each application that will be evaluated. This paid internship has a 32 hour-per-week minimum requirement and can be full-time. It will take place on-site at the Simons Foundation offices from June 1 to August 14, 2026.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in or completion of a Bachelor of Science degree in a related field (i.e., biology, physics, chemistry, computer science, etc.)
  • Strong interest in science and/or math.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, deadline-driven, flexible/adaptable, and highly organized.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Software proficient and eager to learn new platforms (i.e. SmartSimple)— must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Vice President and Senior Scientific Officer, coordinate Pivot Fellowship application review process
  • In collaboration with the Vice President and Senior Scientific Officer, assist in identifying peer reviewers for each application ensuring reviewers have the necessary expertise to provide a thoughtful review of the proposal. This may require extensive research as applications are submitted in several scientific fields
  • Review submitted applications and assist with quality assurance process as needed
  • Correspond with potential reviewers to gauge their interest in being part of the review process and respond to any questions they may have
  • In conjunction with the Grants Manager, communicate application assignments to reviewers, respond to reviewer inquiries, and manage conflicts of interest
  • Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned or required
