JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Pathway Interns will work directly as a functioning member of multiple teams within Nelnet. Interns will rotate through a variety of business departments across the enterprise, adding value to projects already in place or creating new ones to own yourself. In addition, they will collaborate with other interns to complete multiple projects based on real business problems Nelnet faces today. Through this program, we have scheduled events, programming, networking, and mentorship opportunities that interns will be expected to participate in. Marketing Track – Creativity Meets Strategy Help us tell Nelnet’s story and engage associates in meaningful ways. As a Marketing Pathway Intern, you’ll explore the world of communications and marketing, gaining hands-on experience in creating content, managing campaigns, and supporting engagement initiatives. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals to learn the full process—from brainstorming ideas to delivering impactful materials. Available departments to rotate through include: • Associate Experience • Nelnet Business Services (NBS) Associate Experience • Nelnet Business Services (NBS) FACTS Marketing • Nelnet Business Services (NDS) Associate Experience • Nelnet Diversified Services (NDS) Communications • Corporate Communications Projects may include: Assist with internal associate engagement and appreciation campaigns. Create and edit videos for internal and external audiences. Write and edit content for newsletters, SharePoint pages, and other communication platforms. Support social media and digital marketing efforts, including trend research and copywriting. Collaborate on marketing projects from creative brief through implementation. Contribute ideas for improving communication strategies and engagement initiatives. You will receive: Computer Equipment: Laptop, monitor, keyboard, and mouse, for the duration of your internship. Day-to-day support from direct manager(s), the formal Nelnet Mentor Program, campus recruiting, and Nelnet support functions regarding any questions you might have. The most comfortable Nelnet t-shirts, along with other swag items, to help you feel at home.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a 4-year degree, preferable sophomore or junior status, in majors such as Marketing, Communication, Advertising and Public Relations, Graphic Design, or other Marketing-related majors.
  • Strong writing and editing skills for various audiences and platforms (e.g., newsletters, web content, social media).
  • Familiarity with marketing principles, branding, and content creation.
  • Basic understanding of social media trends and digital communication strategies.
  • Comfortable using technology and learning new tools quickly (e.g., SharePoint, content management systems).
  • Ability to conduct research and apply creative thinking to marketing projects.
  • Has the confidence to present relevant information to other associates.
  • Uses different analysis techniques to look at competitive markets.
  • Has a strong ability to utilize social media to leverage the business’s expertise.
  • Has the necessary network infrastructure to work virtually if needed.
  • Can work effectively independently or in a team-based environment.
  • Is self-motivated, accountable, and driven to maximize opportunities presented in the internship.
  • Possesses exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Is comfortable with some degree of ambiguity and able to adapt to multiple rotations throughout the academic year.
  • Willing to share new ideas (with interns and full-time associates), while recognizing feedback as an opportunity for professional growth.
  • Ideally, will be a sophomore or junior in college during the internship term, though all students will be considered.
  • Understands how to manage time between school and work responsibilities.
  • Must be able to work on-site in Lincoln, NE, and work at least 15-20 hours/week consistently.
  • Is able to fulfill all hours within normal business operating hours (Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm CST).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with video creation and editing tools (preferred but not required).
