About The Position

This position is responsible for supporting profitable growth in the Power Distribution & Control Assemblies (PDCA) business at the Fayetteville facility through design development including new product introduction and cost out projects. The applicant should have technical knowledge to design / develop assemblies of complex mechanical and/or electrical design layouts, assemblies, test fixtures, including fabrication drawings, and/or schematic using computer-aided engineering systems. The role supports inputs established by higher-level engineers and outputs repeatable/robust documentation for electrical motor control assemblies. This role also supports lab tech functions (of Prototype building, testing, remote lab visits) and Designer/ Digitization efforts. Additive manufacturing (3D Printing) knowledge is beneficial. The intern will work to standard procedures or written and oral instructions from the supervisor/engineering team, and develop process improvements as needed.

Requirements

  • Must be actively enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program within engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Must be within 50 miles of Fayetteville, NC to be considered.

  • Experience in electrical assembly manufacturing with an understanding manufacturing / fabrication and testing process and able to utilize Electrical diagrams for troubleshooting.
  • Familiar with mechanical designs and packaging electromechanical or electronic components in sheet metal enclosures.
  • Understanding and application of drafting standards and techniques.
  • Familiarity with parametric design techniques and performing statistical tolerance analyses utilizing Autodesk Inventor assembly models.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills – both verbal and written with ability to make necessary status reports and technical presentations to Eaton management, etc.
  • Capable of working in a high-performance culture environment with NPI team collaboration.
  • Ability to interpret both electrical and mechanical drawings.

Nice To Haves

  • Additive manufacturing (3D Printing) knowledge.
  • Testing methodologies and data capture strongly preferred.
  • Familiar with system networking, Advanced digital items, VFD’s etc.
  • Certified QEW (Qualified Electric Work), broad range of test equipment usage: Hi-Pot/Dielectric, etc.
  • Knowledgeable with 3D Design software Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, Enovia, MS Office.
  • Control assembly construction/build and testing abilities.
  • FEA Simulations abilities preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in Six Sigma tool usage for Design and Development is preferred (i.e. certified Green Belt, or Black Belt in training).

Responsibilities

  • Design / develop assemblies of complex mechanical and/or electrical design layouts, assemblies, test fixtures, including fabrication drawings, and/or schematic using computer-aided engineering systems.
  • Support the inputs established by higher-level engineers & output repeatable/robust documentation for electrical motor control assemblies.
  • Support lab tech functions (of Prototype building, testing, remote lab visits) and Designer/ Digitization efforts.
  • Work to standard procedures or written and oral instructions from supervisor/ Eng team, and to develop process improvements as needed.
  • Address and resolve issues that surface with little to no supervision.
  • Demonstrate the ability to handle multiple projects / assignments / duties.
  • Travel to support product testing, typically multiple week long events.
  • Read electrical Schemes, and also sketch new ones as needed.
  • Demonstrate digital awareness to Additive manufacturing, Communication protocols, Testing/ simulation and Intelligent architecture schemes.
  • Assemble troubleshoot samples for evaluations (Marketing prototypes, test samples).
  • Demonstrate an advanced level of product knowledge, assembly & fabrication methods.
  • Collaborate on toolsets such as: 8-D, cost reduction, greenbelt, safety reviews, JSA, etc.
  • Provide technical assistance to engineering / manufacturing groups for implementation efforts.
  • Successfully manage complex projects to a timeline and following Eaton's PROLaunch process.
  • Lead Lab actions as needed (including Training and calibrations).
  • Support and coordinate generation of Lab testing process routines and test fixtures.
  • Support Lab Tech with similar tasks of Proto / concept build, unit wiring/troubleshooting, Lab testing, and Remote Lab support for developmental validation.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Ensure compliance where applicable with systems and /or programs such as, but not limited to ISO 9000-2000, ISO 14001, Underwriters Laboratory, NEMA, etc.
  • Participate in and demonstrate understanding of other programs such as Eaton Business System (EBS), Management of Environmental, Safety, & Health (MESH), Eaton Quality System (EQS).
  • Know and follow established job specific and facility wide health and safety procedures and rules.
  • Bring health and safety issues, unsafe acts and safety suggestions to management's attention or correct those they can.
