We’re on the lookout for bright minds to join our summer internship program and embark on a journey of growth, learning, and hands-on experience! An internship with Hunter Industries complements university coursework, provides first-hand experience of working in the real world, and the opportunity to develop relevant skills and knowledge for career readiness. The Experience: Project Scopes: Each intern is assigned a specific project that contributes value to the Company. Networking Opportunities: Interns gather often to connect, network, and bond as a cohort. Development Workshops: We provide professional development opportunities that prepare you to transition seamlessly into the workforce. Community Impact: We partner with our Sustainability & Social Impact team to participate in an event that gives back to the community. Site Visits: Interns will travel to off-site locations to explore real-world product installations. Leadership Lunch: Interns gather with senior leaders for casual conversation, networking, and Q&A over lunch. Final Showcase: Interns will share their journey and achievements through a presentation to a large group of leaders and peers at the end of the program. What You’ll Be Doing: As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will support a sustaining engineering project aimed at improving the performance, manufacturability, or cost-effectiveness of an existing FX lighting product. The specific project will be selected prior to the internship but may include redesigning components for Marketing requested product improvements, updating CAD models to reflect engineering change orders, driving a cost down effort or solving a field issue with a product improvement. The objective is to apply engineering analysis and design tools to make meaningful contributions to an existing product line, while learning to balance design intent with real-world constraints. What You’ll Learn: Through training and mentorship, hands-on tasks and design reviews, weekly check-ins, and access to tools and previous data, you will learn the following: SolidWorks for CAD modeling and drawing revisions Exposure to Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles Knowledge of common manufacturing processes including die casting, injection molding, and sheet metal fabrication Familiarity with engineering change processes (ECOs) Problem-solving & Root Cause Analysis in the context of sustaining legacy products Team collaboration in a hybrid design and manufacturing environment

Requirements

  • Driven college students, or recent college graduates, with a major or degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Understanding of mechanical design principles and familiarity with engineering drawings and tolerances
  • Hands on prototyping experience with 3D printing
  • Collaborative individuals that are eager to learn and work with a team
  • Basic shop skills, such as the use of hand tools and measurement equipment
  • Selected candidates must be available to work on-site and full-time between June and August.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic SolidWorks experience a plus
  • Interest in lighting products or product development
