About The Position

Smith+Nephew is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Intern to support the Manufacturing Engineering team at our Oklahoma City, OK facility. This internship provides hands-on exposure to manufacturing operations, process improvement, and engineering support activities within a regulated medical device manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate is curious, analytical, and motivated to learn, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing setting. What will you be doing? Support Manufacturing Engineering projects focused on manufacturing variance (MUV), cost optimization, and productivity improvement Perform detailed analysis of SAP BOM and cost data to identify discrepancies, improvement opportunities, and standard cost alignment Assist in process mapping, data validation, and root cause analysis for manufacturing and cost variances Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Finance teams to collect and interpret data Develop clear documentation and presentations summarizing findings, savings opportunities, and recommendations Support continuous improvement initiatives including Lean manufacturing, waste reduction, and standardization activities Participate in shop floor observations to connect data insights with actual manufacturing processes Planned Start Date: Summer 2026 Program Length: 12 weeks Location: City, OK What will you need to be successful? Education: Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Experience: Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel (PivotTables, formulas, data analysis) Ability to work independently on structured projects while collaborating cross-functionally Strong written and verbal communication skills Exposure to SAP or other ERP systems Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, cost structures, or Lean principles Experience with data analysis, process improvement, or engineering coursework/projects You. Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel (PivotTables, formulas, data analysis)
  • Ability to work independently on structured projects while collaborating cross-functionally
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
