About The Position

At Ayar Labs we’re about to revolutionize computing by moving data with light. We’re unleashing processing power for artificial intelligence, high performance computing, cloud and telecommunications by removing the bottlenecks created by today’s electrical I/O -- making it possible to continue scaling computing system performance. The laser team provides an essential function of defining and developing the most optimal light source powering the entire optical I/O solution. We are looking for a highly motivated graduate intern to join our laser validation group within the Laser development team, where you will inspect the conformance to the specification and explore the limits of the laser chip in operation. Projects are tailored to your experience and interests and you will be mentored by a senior engineer alongside a highly experienced engineering team developing the laser source product.

Requirements

  • Actively pursuing M.S. or Ph.D in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics or Optics.
  • Completed basic course structure in physics/engineering preferably including electrodynamics, calculus, solid state physics, optics or laser related areas.
  • Strong programming skill in Python.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working in a research lab, performing tests and optoelectronic test set ups.
  • Independently working, motivated candidate with ability to complete assigned projects.

Responsibilities

  • Execute tests and experiments to validate and verify laser die (chip on submount) performance with respect to the manufacturer’s specification and product specification.
  • Assist with help with Instrumental and mechanical set up modifications per individual test requirements, including mechanical and optical alignment, data acquisition software optimizations and data analysis.
