About The Position

Talen Energy is seeking an Intern for the Summer of 2026. Our IT Infrastructure & Operations team is responsible for the reliability, security, and performance of the technology platforms that support both corporate operations and regulated power generation assets. Our scope spans networking, cloud and on-prem infrastructure, identity and access management, end-user services, and operational monitoring, all within a highly regulated and mission-critical environment. We focus on keeping the lights on, modernizing legacy platforms, reducing technical debt, and improving operational maturity across the enterprise. This includes supporting secure remote access, hybrid cloud platforms (AWS and on-prem), enterprise networking, and IT service delivery. Ongoing Work & Exposure As an intern, you will gain hands-on exposure to real production environments and active initiatives, including: Daily review and triage of IT incident and service request tickets (network, connectivity, access, and infrastructure services) Supporting monitoring and alerting improvements to proactively identify infrastructure issues Assisting with evaluation of work requests, coordination with internal teams and vendors, and scheduling of work Supporting infrastructure projects ranging from small enhancements to larger modernization efforts Ensuring hardware, software, and platforms remain within supported and secure standards Your Role as an IT Infrastructure Intern You will work alongside experienced infrastructure engineers and operations staff, contributing to practical initiatives that improve service reliability/security , data , automation, Virtual and Physical infrastructure . Digital Workplace & Infrastructure Innovation – Intern Assignments Big Picture: Help improve the reliability, usability, and efficiency of Talen’s digital infrastructure , workplace , and IT services Contribute real, production-ready deliverables, not theoretical exercises Gain exposure to enterprise IT operations in a regulated energy environment Example Assignments May Include: Conducting data quality reviews related to identity, access, or contact information used by IT systems Producing concise findings and recommendations that consider governance, automation, and operational impact Assisting with the development of AI-assisted IT knowledge articles and FAQs to improve self-service Using AI tools to analyze trends, draft technical content, and improve knowledge base searchability Identifying common IT issues deploying Servers Network Router/Switches and Firewalls Exploring opportunities for automated detection of recurring infrastructure or application issues What You’ll Gain This internship is designed to build foundational enterprise IT skills while exposing you to how technology supports a critical energy business. The Cyber Analyst Intern will play a critical role in identifying, managing, and mitigating risks related to information security and ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and internal policies. What will you own? Security Policy Development: Collaborate in the development and refinement of security policies aligning to NIST Cybersecurity Framework (NIST CSF). Risk Assessments and Decision-Making: You will work on quantifying and prioritizing risks to assist in decision-making. Compliance Monitoring and Updates: Assist in ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory requirements including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX). Identity Governance Administration (IGA): Work closely with the team to initiate access review campaigns. Work with various stakeholders to gather requirements and feedback related to identity governance.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled as a student at an accredited college or university
  • Must be a rising junior or senior pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline
  • Enrolled full-time with a minimum of 12 semester hours
  • Maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Eligible to work in the U.S. in accordance with BCIS guidelines
  • Able to provide an official student transcript and any other required documentation
  • Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and work effectively with others
  • Demonstrated leadership potential through academic, extracurricular, or community involvement
  • Internship eligibility ends upon graduation from the academic program
  • Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking abilities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic understanding of NIST CSF, SOX, risk management, and cybersecurity principles
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team in virtual and in-person environments

Responsibilities
