Position Summary: The Industry Relations Intern will support Port Houston’s Industry Relations team in strengthening relationships with customers, tenants, maritime stakeholders, and industry partners. This internship provides exposure to commercial strategy, customer engagement, market research, and maritime industry operations within one of the nation’s largest ports. The intern will gain hands-on experience supporting business development initiatives, customer outreach efforts, and strategic industry analysis.

Requirements

  • Students must be currently enrolled in and have already completed two semesters in an undergraduate or graduate degree program
  • 2027/2028 graduation status preferred (junior/senior level)
  • May 2026 graduates are not eligible unless enrolling in graduate program in Fall 2026
  • Students must either attend a Houston area college/university or have a permanent residence within a commutable distance
  • Students must be in good academic standing to apply for an internship; a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.7 is preferred
  • Students must be able to work throughout the established (11 to 12) week program dates
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to prepare business cases and explain and/or support the recommended course of action.
  • Ability to self-manage work expectations
  • Ability to work as an individual contributor and/or within a team
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to listen to business partners and understand their expectations and requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Punctuality is key.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting customer engagement initiatives and stakeholder outreach efforts
  • Assisting in the preparation of industry briefings, presentations, and meeting materials
  • Conducting market research related to maritime trade trends and industry performance
  • Supporting data collection and analysis related to cargo volumes, customer metrics, and industry benchmarks
  • Assisting with CRM data updates and tracking customer interactions
  • Supporting preparation of reports for executive leadership and Commission briefings
  • Assisting in planning and coordination of industry events or partner meetings
  • Participating in cross-departmental meetings related to trade development and customer strategy
  • Perform general administrative duties in support of the Industry Relations team
