About The Position

The Safety Internship Program provides hands-on experience for students pursuing a career in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental, Risk Management, or related fields. The intern will support the Mesa Energy Systems Safety Department in reinforcing a culture of safety across service, retrofit, automation, and administrative teams. Throughout the program, the intern will participate in field safety visits, conduct safety observations, help maintain compliance programs, assist with accident investigations, support training initiatives, and contribute to key safety projects. The intern will also complete a final capstone project demonstrating learning, field exposure, and contributions to the organization. The Safety Intern will work closely with branch leadership, field supervisors, technicians, and the corporate safety team to help ensure that safe work practices are followed and that compliance documentation is accurate and current. Additional administrative and project-based safety tasks may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

  • Actively pursuing bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental, Risk Management, or a related field will be conferred within 2 years.
  • Strong computer skills using MS Office required.
  • Competitive nature + Reliable, self-driven, articulate, and goal oriented.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, manage time effectively, multi-task, & prioritize.
  • Ability to identify different personality types and adapt/respond accordingly and professionally.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations is preferred (OSHA 10/30 training a plus).
  • Experience in the HVAC is preferred.
  • Strong presentation skills, organization, and time-management skills is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field safety observations and job walks with Safety, Operations, or Service personnel.
  • Assist with documenting findings, identifying hazards, and recommending corrective actions.
  • Support safety onboarding for new hires, including gathering training records and preparing orientation material.
  • Help administer and update safety programs such as LOTO, Fall Protection, Confined Space, and Employee Safety Handbook.
  • Participate in incident investigations by gathering statements, photos, and supporting documentation.
  • Update safety dashboards, metrics, and leading/lagging indicator tracking tools.
  • Support the preparation and delivery of safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety awareness campaigns.
  • Help maintain compliance documentation including JHAs, SDS catalog, Training records, and inspection forms.
  • Participate in branch Safety Committee meetings and prepare recap materials.
  • Assist with vehicle and driver safety programs, including reviewing telematics data and organizing documentation.
  • Complete special projects assigned by the Corporate Safety Department.
