About The Position

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated HSE Intern who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Hagerstown, MD Accountabilities The student will have the opportunity to make an impact in Health, Safety and Environmental, (HSE) department playing a key role in implementing and monitoring our current safety programs, while also engaging with employees to refine safety procedures. Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices for compliance with corporate and legislative requirements, standards, and regulations Work daily with the HSE Manager and others on the management team Daily/weekly monitoring of safety reporting and digital systems Assist HSE, Engineering, and supervisors with job safety analysis and other procedural improvements Provide project status updates as required Works under close supervision of the HSE Manager

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a degree in Environmental, Health and Safety or engineering disciplines or related field.
  • Current Junior or Senior at a 4-year university with a graduation date between December, 2026 and December, 2027
  • Or enrolled in a Master’s program with a graduation date between December, 2026 and December, 2027
  • Must be available to work at least 40 hours per week onsite
  • In accordance with the DOT’s FRA and FTA programs, Hitachi’s substance screening program tests pre-employment candidates and current employees, as required for safety-sensitive positions.

Responsibilities
