About The Position

Amentum is seeking a creative electrical/controls technician with entry level experience. Applicants will be building and wiring control cabinets and hardware. Must be able to read and understand wiring diagrams and schematics. Must be able to safely use hand tools, power tools, and other machinery. The successful candidate will work in a multidiscipline project team environment to and build custom design solutions to satisfy unique customer requirements. Typical projects include wind tunnel equipment, rocket and jet engine test stands, automotive test cells and other unique test facilities and systems.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED: Required to demonstrate basic reading, math, and comprehension skills.
  • Schematic Reading: Ability to interpret 2D/3D electrical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
  • Wiring Proficiency: Skills in routing, bundling, and terminating wires and cables (crimping, soldering) according to UL 508A or IEC standards.
  • Tool Operation: Proficiency with hand tools (wire strippers, crimpers, screwdrivers) and power tools (drills, sanders, grinders).
  • Testing & Troubleshooting: Basic use of multimeters for continuity and functional tests.
  • Safety Standards: Knowledge of NEC (National Electrical Code), NEMA, and NFPA 70E (safety best practices).
  • We will accept candidates with demonstrated mechanical aptitude, basic tool knowledge, highly motivated and willingness to learn.

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational/Technical Training (Preferred): Specialized coursework in electrical technology, electronics, or mechatronics is highly desired, though not always required for entry-level positions.
  • Certifications (Preferred): OSHA 10/30-hour training, IPC-A-610 (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies).

Responsibilities

  • Reads and interprets complex electrical schematics and CAD drawings.
  • Performs layout, drills/cuts panels, and installs DIN rails, Panduit, and components.
  • Executes wiring, including crimping, terminating, and labeling components.
  • Operates hand tools, power tools, and machinery safely.
