About The Position

Apply your classroom-learned skills to a program supporting the defense of our country. GDMS has an opening for a summer Electrical Engineering Intern to join our team. The position provides an opportunity to work on projects that support some of our nations fundamental defense services. GDMS employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams on various technical projects associated with our core mission. This position will primarily be onsite with some options for remote work depending on the assignment. The selected intern will join the Nuclear Monitoring Programs. General Dynamics provides operational support and maintenance of the Radionuclide Stations in the United States International Monitoring System (US IMS) supporting the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT). The tasking for the internship will include focus on supporting the Operation and Maintenance of remote monitoring stations that comprise the United States network. Travel is not required for this position. As part of this support, interns will assist engineers in the build, test, and evaluation of equipment, investigation of operational improvements to team processes, and development and integration of equipment for use in expanding the teams hardware testbed capabilities.

Requirements

  • Candidates should demonstrate a thorough understanding of engineering technology.
  • Engineering Interns must be enrolled in an accredited degree program in Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other related scientific or technical discipline with a preference for a standing of a sophomore or higher.
  • Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Basic mechanical and electrical engineering experience to understand equipment drawings, schematics, and general safety
  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using hand tools is desired
  • Familiarity with LabView or ability to learn data acquisition software and hardware tools
  • Experience with Atlassian Jira and Confluence is a plus
  • Experience with 3D modeling software (SolidWorks PDM) and 3D printing (Selective Laser Sintering) is a plus
