The Philadelphia Heart Walk Intern will support the planning, promotion, and execution of the American Heart Association’s annual Philadelphia Heart Walk. This role provides hands-on experience in event coordination, volunteer engagement, and nonprofit marketing and communications. The intern will work closely with the Development team to help elevate the event’s visibility and impact across the Greater Philadelphia region. The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization. Internship Overview: Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week Internship Duration: 5/18/26-8/21/26 Location: Hybrid position. Will work 2 days in office and remainder of work week at home. Must be in the Greater Philadelphia region. Requirements

  • Candidates who are seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in business, communications, public relations, nonprofit fundraising, or event management.
  • Experience/interest in nonprofit development, public health, marketing, or event management.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working professionally with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.
  • Effective oral and presentation communication skills.
  • Proficient in multiple social media platforms.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
  • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Basic knowledge of Canva.
  • Reliable WiFi Connection and reliable transportation.
  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future.
  • For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with event planning tasks, including logistics, participant outreach, donor stewardship, and day‑of‑event coordination.
  • Support recruitment and engagement of corporate teams, community groups, and volunteers.
  • Contribute to marketing and communications efforts, including drafting social media content, email copy, website updates, and promotional materials.
  • Help manage social media calendars and track engagement metrics to support growth strategies.
  • Conduct local market research to identify potential partners, audiences, and storytelling opportunities.
  • Gather and organize participant stories, photos, and testimonials for use in promotional campaigns.
  • Provide administrative support such as database updates, tracking registrations, and preparing event materials.
