This is a unique opportunity to be involved in the planning and fundraising efforts of the AHA’s signature fundraising event, as well as DC’s largest Walk, all while contributing to AHA’s life-saving mission. The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization. Requirements

  • Candidates who are seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in business, communications, public relations, nonprofit fundraising, or event management.
  • Experience/interest in promotion, sales, or fundraising.
  • Interest in event planning, fundraising, and/or nonprofit work.
  • Enthusiastic and eager to learn about the campaigns and the Association.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills- for coordinating with vendors, teams, and attendees.
  • Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working professionally with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.
  • Effective oral and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to solve problems, be adaptable and manage multiple tasks.
  • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Basic knowledge of Canva.
  • Required Equipment: Reliable WiFi Connection and reliable transportation.
  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future.
  • For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planning and coordinating, and executing pre-event logistics for the Walk and Executives with Heart event, and on-site event management for CPR events, company kickoffs, and networking events.
  • Research and request in-kind items from hotels, restaurants, and other tangible experiences.
  • Vendor and volunteer management, including signage and content creation.
  • Conduct pre-event outreach to past Heart Walk attendees and conduct follow-up calls to past and current coaches, top fundraising participants, and survivors to support participation.
  • Assist with sponsor and leadership presentation preparation and gather materials for sponsor follow-up after meetings, helping to maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Assist with pulling reports, data entry, and organizing event-related information to track progress and outcomes.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as preparing printed materials, assembling thank-you cards, and organizing event supplies.
  • Assist in creating event collateral (invitations, programs, signage, etc.).
  • Support the planning and execution of Hands-Only CPR demonstrations.
  • Support special projects assigned to help ensure the success of these high-profile events.
