Position Summary: The Intern, Community Conservation Programs position will assist staff with bird conservation, habitat enhancement, and conservation science activities and events at Montezuma Audubon Center (MAC), and the Montezuma Wetlands Complex. The role includes engaging community groups, working with volunteers, enhancing various habitats, assisting staff with conservation science projects, and education programs. Most of the activities take place either at the MAC, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation areas, and US Fish and Wildlife Service properties, and reach a range of ages from two to adult. Strong candidates will take a thoughtful approach to bird conservation and public empowerment. While the focus is on the MAC’s conservation projects, the Intern, Community Conservation Programs also provides help with MAC management including animal care, staffing the front desk, and greeting visitors. Length of Internship : 10 weeks Hours: 35 hours/week This position is classified as on-site at Montezuma Center in Savannah, NY Compensation: $19.00 / hour Additional Job Description Intern Responsibilities and Learning Objectives: During the internship, you will work with Montezuma Audubon Center staff to: Implement community-based conservation programs at priority sites in and near Montezuma Center that engage new and diverse audiences and improve habitat. Assist staff with stewardship programs, partnerships, and projects; work with Center staff and Community Partners to incorporate Audubon priority content into programs and develop tools and resources appropriate for the region. Conduct community science and conservation action projects and other monitoring of sites in the Montezuma Wetlands Complex that adds to the data and ecological knowledge of the sites. Assist staff with coordination and communication with school groups, habitat restoration and center volunteers, and agency partners. Care for exhibit collections; perform live animal care, acquire, create, and maintain educational artifacts, equipment, and supplies. Duties may include researching, maintaining, and storing such equipment and supplies.
