About The Position

Planet is seeking a dynamic, self-starting Communications Intern to join our team for the Summer 2026 term. This is an ideal opportunity for a student or recent graduate eager to dive into the world of Earth observation technology and global storytelling. As an intern, you won't just be watching from the sidelines; you’ll be an active participant in high-stakes moments, including upcoming launches and high-visibility executive speaking opportunities. You will support the team in monitoring the media landscape, drafting content for our owned channels, and helping us maintain the operational "engine" of the communications department. The successful candidate is organized, curious, and energized by the prospect of turning complex satellite data into compelling narratives. This role reports to the Communications Manager (US - remote). This is a full-time, hybrid role which will require you to work from our San Francisco office 3 days per week.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • A keen eye for detail and the ability to write clear, engaging prose.
  • Familiarity with social platforms and an interest in how brands use them to reach professional audiences.
  • An ability to learn complex technical concepts and help translate them for a general audience.
  • A "no task too small" attitude and a desire to work across different time zones and teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong writing skills and well-versed in the media landscape
  • Experience in using a suite of AI tools and nimble to apply AI skills to streamline communications efforts
  • An interest in technology, aerospace, and world events

Responsibilities

  • Own the daily tracking of media coverage and industry news. You’ll be the first to spot a Planet mention and will take the lead on drafting our weekly communications recap.
  • Serve as a core team member for upcoming rocket launches. You will help develop the press release, blog content, and social media assets.
  • Support announcements and media interviews by drafting press releases, blog posts, media backgrounders and briefing docs.
  • Scrub and update our master media lists, identifying new journalists and influencers who should be following the Planet story.
  • Support the Media Think Tank Program (MTTP) by identifying striking Planet imagery to be used across social media and earned media pitches.
