S&B is currently seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer Intern to perform routine to moderately complex design tasks under general supervision. The role requires proficiency in fundamental civil and structural design principles and methodologies. Assignments are intended to enhance the incumbent's technical knowledge and capabilities and may involve addressing unique or challenging problems. The work generally involves executing a series of interconnected design tasks utilizing established techniques, procedures, and standards. Requirements

  • Currently enrolled at an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • Internship classification normally requires completion of at least two years of undergraduate studies from an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • Must have working knowledge of various computer software packages and automated engineering and design equipment.
  • Must possess the eligibility to work and remain in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before clients or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • This requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
  • Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.

  • Previous internship experience is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares simple design and construction drawings from sketches or verbal instructions utilizing manual or computer-assisted drafting/design techniques.
  • Prepares sketches and performs calculations for a specific segment of a project.
  • Performs related fundamental design support tasks such as updating computer lists, making simple calculations, proofreading reports, etc.
  • May utilize information from vendor prints, catalogs, technical manuals, etc.
  • Supports field assignments as required.
