Starting Salary Range: $22.00 - $22.00 The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) has openings for three Reliability Engineering Interns in our Asset Management Department, located in Lansing, MI. Position Summary: Job Type: Full-Time Summer Internship Dates: May 11, 2026 - August 07, 2026 Pay Rate: $22.00 per hour. The Asset Management Interns will help with the implementation of reliability engineering processes at the BWL. The Interns will assist with the development of a failure modes and effects analysis for a critical asset as well as implement the results. This will involve assisting with data collection, system research and field walkdowns. The Asset Management Interns at our offices will learn from, and be supervised by, a mentor of the Asset Management Department.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited educational institution in an engineering program (e.g., preference in civils/structural, but may include chemical, mechanical, industrial, reliability, electrical) with junior or senior status during the summer of 2026.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the internal departments on various projects as assigned.
  • Asset data collection, Bills of Materials development, PM or work instruction creation, And/or developing/documenting critical set points for the DCS alarms.
  • Work collaboratively on the Asset Management System tasks with other departmental interns (e.g., REO Plant intern) which could include data or asset information collection and processing.
  • Research subsystem functions, maintenance and operational plans, and data to develop an Asset Management Plan (AMP).
  • Analyze drawings and manuals and perform system walkdowns to gather asset data in the chiller and gas plants.
  • Assist with the development of work instructions and procedures to support critical subsystem operations and maintenance.
  • Utilizes standard office software (i.e., spreadsheet, word-processing, database) and SAP.
  • Required to follow BWL Safety Manual and wear personal protective equipment for all field work.
  • Attends training and safety awareness and/or skills improvement as required by the BWL or government agency such as MIOSHA.
  • Participation in the continuous improvement of the Asset Management System.
  • Expected to comply with all BWL policies and work rules.
  • Predictable and reliable attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
