About The Position

The Asset & Energy Management Intern will be part of the Clearway Asset and Energy Management Team. The Asset and Energy Management Team is responsible for the commercial management of 7.5 GW of utility-scale wind and solar power projects located across the United States. Asset Management also serves as the owner's representative ensuring that budget control, value optimization, and risk mitigation are performed during the entire operational lifecycle of a project. This position is part of the 10-week Summer Internship Program at Clearway Energy Group beginning in June 2025. We are looking for master's students pursuing a degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Economics, or other related quantitative field. Throughout this summer internship program, you'll get exposure to real projects and challenges while gaining first-hand professional experience. At Clearway, you'll gain access to an innovative and fast-paced work environment. You'll also participate in networking and learning events with your fellow intern cohort. This hybrid position will be based in the San Diego, Houston, or Scottsdale offices.

Requirements

  • Advanced Python skills
  • Intermediate SQL skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Office, particularly Excel skills.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new data applications like Hex or Streamlit, and data orchestrator tools like Dagster.
  • Understanding of optimization models such as linear optimization.
  • Experience or interest in the power and renewables industry.
  • Intellectual curiosity and an interest in renewable energy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and accountable.
  • Ability to work independently, multitask, and take ownership of projects and assignments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in the power industry.
  • Understanding of BESS or renewables valuation.

Responsibilities

  • Support the asset valuation tool base, create/support optimization tools for conventional or renewable assets, support the short-term trading activities with quantitative models, use data engineering abilities to improve model functionality, and use Python skills to improve the code base.
  • Support project evaluations, project agreements, contract reviews, and due diligence to help make recommendations in support of acquisitions, divestitures, and/or investments in company-developed projects.
  • Support P&L analysis and economic performance for generating assets within the assigned portfolio.
  • Perform financial analyses, project evaluations, and due diligence to help make recommendations in support of plant optimization, recovery plans, revenue enhancement, and other major capital investments.
  • Analyze, track, and update budgets, forecasts, and financial models.
  • Extract generation data from external & internal sources as needed to support various reporting needs.
  • Present results to the project leadership at the end of the summer.
