About The Position

Under general supervision performs routine accounting clerical activities of intermediate difficulty requiring some analysis and individual judgment. Duties include examining, verifying, and maintaining accounts. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Solicit bids by phone or by fax from various vendors related to the purchase and acquisition of materials, equipment, and supplies for the Arlington Police Department; utilizing information provided by the various police units. Serves as back up to the Police Payroll Coordinator position for the Arlington Police Department, schedule payroll activities, and any other duties as needed. Provide miscellaneous clerical services to the Fiscal Services Division by processing expense reports, typing correspondences, maintaining miscellaneous data bases, distributing monthly budget reports, auditing miscellaneous inter-departmental billings, and reconciling accounting reports. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Ability to perform other related duties as needed or directed.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of established bookkeeping or accounting procedures.
  • Skill in preparing and validating accounting source documents.
  • Skill in examining, verifying and maintaining accounts.
  • Skill in communicating with other city employees and the public by oral and written means.
  • Ability to work independently in the absence of specified instructions.
  • Ability to prepare and analyze statistical statements and reports.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with fellow employees and the public.
  • Ability to operate a variety of office machines such as adding machine, calculator, PC, copier, etc.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sound.
  • Ability to lift or exert forces equivalent to lifting up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including, but not limited to carrying, filing, holding, seeing, sorting, typing and writing.
  • Ability to work in an indoor environment.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of experience related accounting clerical experience.
  • OR any equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Criminal background check
  • CJIS criminal background check.
  • Credit evaluation
