About The Position

Charles River CFO, Inc. (CRCFO) has an immediate need for a seasoned Interim CFO with direct credit union experience located in Maine. The role is estimated at 30–40 hours per week and will require an onsite presence initially (hybrid flexibility TBD). The client is looking for someone who can start quickly. This role is ideal for a CFO who thrives in a hands-on environment, stepping in to lead financial operations and support the organization through a leadership transition and continued growth.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Minimum of 8+ years of accounting/finance experience, including 5+ years in a CFO or senior leadership role
MUST HAVE experience within a credit union environment
Ability to operate in a hands-on capacity, both executing and leading
Strong understanding of: Financial reporting and regulatory compliance Risk management (interest rate risk, liquidity, etc.) Budgeting, forecasting, and financial strategy
Experience working with Boards and executive leadership teams
Comfortable operating in a smaller, lean financial environment
Ability to adapt quickly and step into an existing structure
Willingness to be onsite initially to integrate with team and operations

Responsibilities

Develop and execute financial strategy aligned with organizational goals
Prepare and present financial reports to executive leadership and Board of Directors
Oversee and maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts
Monitor cash balances, liquidity, and funding requirements
Ensure compliance with all regulatory and financial reporting standards specific to credit unions
Serve as the primary liaison with auditors, regulators, and external partners
Review and approve financial reporting to ensure accuracy and compliance
Lead budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis
Oversee accounts payable, receivable, and financial operations
Support risk management and internal controls
Partner with leadership on growth initiatives and organizational planning
Drive improvements in financial processes, systems, and reporting
