About The Position

The interim assistant director of patient access services is responsible for the daily operations of all functions related to patient healthcare access and revenue cycle at Driscoll Children’s Hospitals. This role involves developing and implementing policies and procedures that guide or support this service, assessing and improving department performance, and ensuring the orientation and continuing education of departmental staff. This leader serves as the key promoter of service excellence, striving to meet and exceed the needs of their customers, which include patients, providers, payers, and other DCH associates. The position may also involve recommending resources/space and participating in the selection of outside services. Furthermore, the role encompasses managing key performance indicators, staff development, ensuring compliance with DCH and Patient Access policies, and adhering to corporate integrity guidelines, particularly concerning complex government regulations like Medicare and Medicaid.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or health-related field with a minimum of three years’ Direct patient access or revenue cycle management experience in a leadership role; or ten years direct patient access or revenue cycle experience and health-related leadership position for three years or more
  • Demonstrates knowledge of governmental billing regulations as they pertain to Medicare and Medicaid programs
  • Must have active unrestricted drivers license
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Analytical skill required to address complex issues
  • Strong knowledge of and effective in administering hospital policies and procedures
  • Strong knowledge of governmental regulations as they pertain to Medicare and Medicaid billing and compliance
  • Thorough understanding of billing requirements for Medicare/Medicaid and private payors programs & policies
  • Ability to interpret complex governmental regulations and apply practically
  • Ability to interpret managed care contracts and applies practically to the revenue cycle
  • Must have reliable transportation

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the daily operations of all functions related to patient healthcare access and revenue cycle at Driscoll Children’s Hospitals
  • Developing and implementing policies and procedures that guide or support this service
  • Assesses and improves department performance
  • Ensures orientation and continuing education of departmental staff
  • Serves as the key promoter to service excellence which, along with the team, strives to meet and exceed the needs of their customers
  • May recommend resources/space needed by the department
  • May participate in the selection of outside services
  • Always maintains utmost level of confidentiality
  • Adheres to hospital policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines

  • Implement and promote excellent customer service and respond to all customer inquiries in a timely and professional manner to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all aspects of patient accounting, financial counseling, registration/admissions, benefit verification and authorization workflows
  • Complete in-depth management reports including summarization of weekly and monthly performance
  • Demonstrated multi-task orientation
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply complex government regulations in regard to Medicare and Medicaid to the revenue cycle
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are required to effectively interact with department management, and staff at all levels
  • Works closely with the department leadership team to interview, hire, evaluate, and counsel department staff members
  • Assures compliance with DCH and Patient Access policies and procedures
  • Assures staff participation in Corporate Integrity Program
  • Participate and initiate process improvement resolutions as indicated
  • Assures that all patient access processes are completed in a professional and thorough manner
  • Works closely with other educational leaders and department managers to develop, evaluate and implement individual training plans and staff development programs for the department
  • Accountable for implementing and monitoring activity related to the financial budget as directed
  • Conduct routine checks (audits) on patient accounts to ensure actions are being completed according to policy
  • Attend and participate in at least 8 hours of compliance-related training annually in addition to the annual hospital wide compliance training
  • Participates, supports, and completes all DCH training activities
  • Strives to expand working knowledge of assigned job and various other aspects within patient accounting and the revenue cycle and that of the department employees
  • Accepts constructive criticism and integrates suggestions in effective ways
  • Attend workshops, seminars, and meetings as indicated
  • Actively searches for solutions to problems and continually brings ideas and recommendations as indicated
  • Demonstrate excellent leadership and supervisory skills
  • Exercises good judgment and demonstrate a professional approach to dealing with others
  • Holds staff accountable for achieving performance measures
  • Analytical skill required to address complex issues
  • Achieves system EMR and other business platform proficiency
  • May be required to travel to satellite locations to support patient access services as needed to ensure the daily operations of all functions related to patient healthcare access and revenue cycle at Driscoll
  • Effectively manages key performance system indicators including: Individual and team performance measures
  • Developmental feedback including coaching, teaching, scripting
  • Progressive goal setting for improvement
  • Assesses staff competency using teach back methods, audits, customer feedback
  • Use of process improvement plans or progressive discipline when indicated
  • Oversees operations of department as assigned
  • Strong knowledge of and effective in administering hospital policies and procedures
