About The Position

As Intelligence and Threat Assessment Investigator, has responsibility for identifying, assessing, and managing potential threats to the safety and security of the Emory enterprise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal justice, Psychology, Public Safety or related field and four years of experience in private investigation, law enforcement, campus safety, behavioral threat assessment, or investigative roles or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Georgia licensure as a private detective.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with threat assessment models and investigative techniques.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and discretion in sensitive situations.
  • Position involves occasional exposure to high-stress or emergency situations.
  • NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.

Nice To Haves

  • Threat assessment training or certification highly desirable (e.g., NTAC, BJA, or equivalent).
  • Experience working in higher education preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts comprehensive investigations into concerning behaviors, threat reports, and incidents involving students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Collaborates closely with the Emory Police Department, Emory Healthcare Public Safety, campus partners, mental health professionals, and other stakeholders to mitigate risks and ensure timely intervention.
  • Gathers, analyzes, and evaluates information from multiple sources to assess the level of risk posed by individuals or situations.
  • Gathers open-source intelligence information from multiple sources to assess potential threats to the enterprise.
  • Conducts detailed investigations of reported threats, concerning behaviors, and security incidents affecting the university community.
  • Utilizes recognized threat assessment frameworks and tools (e.g., WAVR-21, TRAP-18) to guide evaluations and recommendations.
  • Coordinates with internal and external partners including Emory police, campus security, counseling services, student affairs, and legal counsel.
  • Prepares comprehensive threat assessment reports, documenting findings, risk levels, and recommended interventions.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary threat assessment team meetings to review cases and develop risk mitigation strategies.
  • Maintains confidentiality and adheres to all legal requirements and university policies related to privacy and information sharing.
  • Responds promptly to emergent threat situations, providing investigative expertise and recommendations.
  • Assists in the development and revision of university threat assessment protocols and emergency response plans.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.
