About The Position

The IP Research Associate will provide technical and research assistance in managing intellectual property related matters such as invention disclosure evaluation, patent filing, Patent landscape/ patent coverage related research projects. Provide technical assistance in obtaining “Right to practice” opinions by obtaining and providing necessary information and documentation. The ideal candidate is energetic, flexible, and highly organized. Must be able to juggle multiple projects and thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining positive attitude. This is a part-time temporary position for approximately 4-6 months.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or persuing a master's degree with 3 years of industrial experience/ PhD in the relevant technical field (Chemistry; Chemical Engineering; Materials Science/ Engineering)
  • Currently authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and bring them to completion
  • High level of motivation, drive to get to the bottom of a technical matter
  • Strong attention to detail, coordination of multiple projects, ability to set priorities and meet deadlines under pressure
  • Strong analytical capability and technical capacity
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and an ability to work individually, on a project or a team environment
  • Project Management
  • Ability to manage data and work with IT systems for data management
  • High level of initiative. Must take ownership of assigned tasks and go beyond
  • Strong knowledge and experience of MS word, Excel
  • Complete discretion and ability to work with confidential information
  • Strong problem solving skills

Nice To Haves

  • Training or experience in patent/invention disclosure matters is a plus
  • Knowledge of US patent law and procedures is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Take lead in researching the IP matters and provide prompt analysis to support fact based decision making/ strategy.
  • Track and review Invention disclosures for technical content, make sure invention disclosures are evaluated in a timely manner and moving to patent filings
  • Collect and synthesize technical information
  • Conduct analysis of technical information and provide summary reports to assist in patentability/ freedom to operate/ patent invalidity analysis
  • Write and communicate clear instructions for finding prior grades for patent invalidation
  • Work with Order Plan and other internal system to investigate grade history, collect technical evidence to support legal case
  • Support patent prosecution/ invalidation work with external lawyers by providing technical subject matter support and analysis
  • Prepare and maintain documents to support other operational needs
  • Create electronic and physical files, ensuring timely communication, and filing
  • Maintain database, physical and electronic filing systems
  • Must have knowledge of Ahlstrom Information Security policies and is for his/her own part responsible for ensuring information security when handling information and maintaining or using information systems or information networks
