About The Position

The Senior Specialist, Systems Engineering & Shipboard Engineering Integrator is a dual-role position responsible for the technical planning, integration, verification and validation, cost and risk management, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for shipboard systems. This role will oversee the integration of engineering systems and components on ships while ensuring the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions. This role will serve as the functional point of contact on site at Austal shipyard in Mobile Alabama.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
  • Significant project and system architecture experience in relevant areas to L3Harris current and future Naval business strategy.
  • 6+ years prior satisfactory experience as an engineer working with shipyards and interfacing with engineers and management at all levels. Navy or related military experience is a strong desire.
  • Must be able to obtain and keep an active DoD Secret clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory experience and the ability to mentor, train, and motivate people to excel individually and as a team in a fast paced, context switching work environment is preferable.

Responsibilities

  • This Integration Systems Engineer works on site in Mobile Alabama daily.
  • Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
  • Decipher and segregate project requirements into a design specification incorporating required shipbuilding specifications, military specifications, and commercial specifications.
  • Oversee the integration of engineering systems and components on the ship.
  • Provide status updates and reports to stakeholders, including progress, challenges, and risk mitigation plans.
  • Conduct system integration testing and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Prepare and submit required reports and documentation to regulatory bodies as needed.
  • Provide technical support and problem solving on-site, addressing any issues that arise during integration.
  • Proactively address potential issues that may affect project timelines, costs, or quality.
  • Review and comment on supplier technical data, drawings, and technical procedures.
  • Write, review, and provide input to equipment test and trials documentation.
  • Support inspection and test of System installation including:
  • Equipment installation
  • Equipment light-off
  • Trials and acceptance trials support
  • Travels up to 15%, including domestic and international travel.
