Your Opportunity Stantec’s Sacramento, California office is seeking a full-time Integrated Water Management Intern with experience focused on environmental or public sector economics, public policy, multi-party collaborative processes and/or integrated water resources planning and management. The selected candidate will contribute to both the Stantec North American Funding Program and the Integrated Water Management Team, working alongside analysts, public affairs specialists and community water planners to support a variety of integrated water resources planning analysis and management efforts in California and the Western US. Projects will range from those that impact groundwater management, safe drinking water, or stormwater management, to economics, pricing, infrastructure funding, and related assessments. Requirements

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for working on multi-disciplinary teams of project managers, project engineers and staff, clients, regulatory agencies, and subcontractors, and with interested members of the public.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in one or more of the following subject matter areas is preferred, but not required: integrated water management, interactions with land and the environment, and interrelationships with social and economic development; public relations or communications, technical writing for a variety of audiences, and development of content for print media, social media, and video platforms; working knowledge of and interest in local government organizational structure, budgeting / reporting, infrastructure funding, and types of services they provide; visual communications, including website development and management; and urban, community, or regional planning, public administration, public policy, community development, or other social science.
  • Final year undergrad or progress towards a master's degree in: environmental management or analysis, environmental economics or public sector finance, sustainability or resilience studies, public policy (environmental or natural resources focus), or similar.

Responsibilities

  • Consulting to local governments on water resource economics, pricing, infrastructure funding, and financial analysis.
  • Gaining and applying experience in California water resources management and governance, applicable laws/policies/regulations, and community engagement best practices.
  • Developing informative, reader-friendly technical materials to educate and engage elected leaders, client staff, and community members.
  • Planning for in-person, online, or “hybrid” public engagement meetings, including coordination of logistics, development of corresponding educational or presentational materials, and implementation of other strategic outreach efforts.
  • Policy review and tracking of California state funding for water resources, infrastructure, water recycling, hazard mitigation, and climate resilience.
  • Performing project administration tasks, including preparation of reports and memos, gathering information and design documents, drafting correspondence, and other activities as needed.
  • Working in-person from the Sacramento office at least three days per week.
  • Traveling within California as needed for project work, not to exceed 10%.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
