About The Position

We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Intake Specialist to join our Winter Shelter team in Kalamazoo, MI. The Intake Specialist will play a critical role in providing shelter access services to individuals experiencing homelessness during the winter months. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, the ability to manage sensitive information, and a commitment to supporting vulnerable populations.

Requirements

• High school diploma.
• Experience with intake, shelter, or similar role working with unhoused people.
• People with lived experience are encouraged to apply.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
• Excellent organizational and record-keeping abilities.
• Empathy and understanding of the challenges faced by individuals experiencing homelessness.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Familiarity with local community resources and social service agencies is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intake assessments for individuals seeking shelter services during the winter season.
• Verify eligibility and collect necessary documentation to ensure proper shelter access.
• Maintain accurate and confidential records of all intake activities.
• Coordinate with shelter staff and community partners to facilitate smooth client transitions.
• Provide information and referrals to additional resources as needed.
• Assist in managing shelter capacity and client flow to optimize service delivery.
• Ensure compliance with agency policies and procedures.
