About The Position

Our vision is to break the cycle of poverty one neighbor at a time. Through safety-net services and asset building solutions, Worcester Community Action Council (WCAC) creates economic mobility opportunities for tens of thousands of people annually through programs such as energy assistance, early education and care, financial empowerment, positive youth development, and career pathways. WCAC serves 45 towns in Central and South-Central Massachusetts with offices located in Worcester, Southbridge, Webster, East Brookfield, and Leicester. We are a team of 125 employees and an annual budget of approximately $30 million. The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) is a free resource available to help eligible households pay a portion of winter heating bills regardless of how they heat their home. WCAC's HEAP program serves households throughout Worcester County. WCAC seeks to hire and train a full time Intake Specialist responsible to gather applicant information to process the completion and accuracy of the HEAP applications.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or HiSet equivalent required.
  • Previous experience working in an office setting, 1 year desired.
  • Excellent organizational skills and computer skills, including Microsoft Office and the ability to learn software and databases used within the agency.
  • Self-directed, ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse individuals, families, co-workers, and community partners.
  • Customer service oriented; strong interpersonal and communication skills with a positive outlook and empathetic style.
  • May be asked to work extended hours during the peak of the fuel season.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to speak Spanish or other languages, a plus.
