Job Description Admissions Counselor, Per Diem position This position is responsible for assisting with the patient intake process. The counselor is responsible for taking patient intake-calls, providing information to individuals, agencies, facilities, and professional staff (physicians, consulting professionals) requesting information regarding potential admissions, developing and/or maintaining relationships with ongoing sources of referral to alternate treatment sources when appropriate. Knows and understands the Intake Call System Procedures. Responds to telephone inquiry calls. Obtains clinical information on potential patients. Determines clinical and financial eligibility. Completes Intake Assessment with patient and/or family. Initiates verification of insurance coverage to determine viability of insurance for individuals seeking admission and being admitted. Greets new admission and family, making them feel comfortable and welcome. Attempts to answer questions and alleviate concerns. Sets up tours when appropriate and informs facility staff of tours and assessments. Orients resident and family/guardian to the facility covering policies such as phone, mail, visiting, personal belongings, key contacts at the facility and participation in the treatment process. Able to determine a provisional diagnosis for mental health and/or chemical dependence treatment. Successful precertification of mental health and/or chemical dependence treatment with insurance companies. Assists in the location of an available, suitable treatment resource when the patient is not appropriate for the clinical program at La Amistad. Exhibits effective oral and written communication related to Patient Intake Process.

Requirements

  • Education: Master’s degree from an accredited university in a human service area or RN
  • Experience: Minimum two-years of Clinical experience in psychiatric setting preferred
  • License/Certification: Current license from the State of Florida preferred: such as LCSW, LMFT, LMHC; or Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Skills: Above average communication skills, high level of initiative, motivation, independent judgement and organizational skills. Ability to relate to those emotionally disturbed and in crisis.
  • Physical Requirements: Medium demand, mentally. Requires extensive sitting, writing, and talking on telephone. Ability to assist in crisis intervention, physical intervention with out-of-control patients.
  • Other: Performs other duties as may be assigned by CEO.
