About The Position

Digestive Health Specialists, P.A., a leading gastroenterology group based in Winston Salem, is currently recruiting an Insurance Specialist to join our team. We are a well-established and growing practice; founded originally in 1979 and have grown to serve our patients now in 5 locations. Patients choose our practice for our experienced providers and staff who provide friendly, compassionate, high-quality and affordable care. No weekends, nights or call would apply for this position. Definition of Position: This Insurance Specialist position is responsible for reviewing charges and documentation for DHS ASC and office procedures. This includes pathology information, procedure notes and relevant office visit notes as they pertain to the charges. This requires communication with providers, insurance companies, patients and peers. You will maintain a regular dialog with the RCM to provide feedback on issues as they arise.

Requirements

  • CGIC or CPC certification required, or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
  • High School Diploma required, 2 Year Degree Preferred
  • Two years related medical office/billing experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of healthcare compliance laws and coding guidelines
  • Demonstrated computer literacy
  • Be well organized and have excellent attention to detail
  • Read and understand oral and written instructions
  • Excellent math skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members, clinic staff and patients
  • Have a desire and dedication to work with self-discipline
  • Maintains the strictest confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA guidelines and regulations
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time. Work required: walking, bending, standing, sitting, and reaching.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Review all assigned DHS charges with a goal turnaround time of next day for office charges and 2 days after pathology results are received for ASC charges.
  • Possess a thorough knowledge of all DHS billing procedures, the practice management system and stay up-to date on insurance and coding standards to ensure proper billing.
  • Maintain a professional and compassionate demeanor in all interactions with our patients.
  • Receive billing calls from patients and coworkers and handle any issues in an efficient, accurate and courteous manner.
  • Work on special projects as assigned.
  • Maintain current coding credentials
  • Provide timely feedback to the RCM to address any issues related to registration, scheduling or other processes that affect the revenue cycle.
  • Update personal job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications.
  • Abide by all DHS policies and procedures and maintain excellent attendance.
  • Deliver excellent customer service to patients, providers and coworkers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.
