Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in the insurance regulatory space, with significant experience in New York and New Jersey
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • A Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing of both the New York and New Jersey state bars.
  • Solid experience interacting with New York and New Jersey state regulators in both insurance and healthcare matters.
  • Deep knowledge of state law relevant to insurance and healthcare.
  • Exceptional creativity, perseverance, and reasoning abilities to tackle complex legal challenges.
  • Strong analytical skills for navigating intricate legal issues.
  • The ability to appraise, interpret, and apply legal principles and precedents to difficult legal problems.
  • Superb communication skills, both oral and written, to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Proficiency in conducting thorough legal research.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative spirit, fostering effective working relationships with colleagues and firm partners.
  • A keen interest in, or familiarity with, counseling insurance companies, health plans, and other healthcare organizations in commercial transactions, new product development, compliant policies, procedures, and contracts, joint ventures, and M&A.

Responsibilities

  • Providing counsel on property/casualty, life/health insurance regulatory transactional matters.
  • Navigating regulatory investigations and enforcement actions, including market conduct and financial examinations.
  • Advising on holding company matters.
  • Collaborating with insurance companies, health plans, and other healthcare organizations on commercial transactions, new product development, and the creation of compliant policies, procedures, and contracts.
  • Contributing to joint ventures and M&A activities.
  • Handling regulatory licensing and change control.
  • Drafting and negotiating contracts and management agreements.
  • Potentially interfacing with state or federal insurance and/or healthcare regulators.
  • Potentially assisting in defending insurance or healthcare regulatory enforcement actions or litigating disputes related to health benefits.
