About The Position

We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Insurance Specialist to join our team! In this position, the Insurance Specialist will play a key role in supporting a team of multidisciplinary behavioral health clinicians on a variety of insurance-related matters. As the Insurance Specialist, you will serve as the core of our insurance operations. You will be responsible for managing the entire insurance lifecycle, from initial benefit verification to persistent follow-up on complex claims. Success in this role requires keen attention to detail, a passion for problem-solving, and the ability to maintain professional diplomacy while ensuring clients’ access to care is prioritized.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated exceptional organizational skills, proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and familiarity with behavioral health terminology (ICD-10/CPT).
  • Detail-oriented, enjoys solving complex problems, and maintains professional diplomacy while advocating for client access to care.
  • Ability to work within established processes and contribute to process improvement based on expertise.
  • 1–2 years of experience in healthcare administration, insurance billing, or a similar role in medical or behavioral health.
  • Completion of some college coursework is required; majoring in Health Administration, Business, or Psychology is preferred.
  • A genuine interest in the business aspects of healthcare and a passion for supporting mental health initiatives.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous work as a Behavior Technician and/or other clinical position is desirable
  • Experience with commercial insurance payors is desired.
  • Experience with claims processing, denial management, and third-party billing companies is highly desirable.
  • Comfortable serving as a subject matter expert within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive support for prior authorizations across a range of clinical services.
  • Maintain accurate and precise records in the electronic health record system (Central Reach experience is highly desirable) while ensuring full compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Proactively track supporting documentation from medical and school sources by maintaining regular communication with insurance carriers, clinicians, and parents.
  • Assist clients in understanding their coverage options and financial responsibilities with empathy and clarity.
  • Serve as the primary expert on insurance matters within the organization, demonstrating the ability to independently resolve issues by utilizing available resources when encountering unfamiliar situations.
