The Metrology Technician will be responsible for performing calibration, troubleshooting, and system upgrades of instrumentation within the Gas Turbine Test Cell. This position ensures that all measurement devices are operating correctly and recording accurate measurements during equipment testing, thereby maintaining Solar Turbines’ quality standards. The role involves working with various types of instrumentation, including Pressure Transmitters, Temperature Probes, Gas Chromatographs, Emissions Monitoring Equipment, and PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers). The selected candidate must be willing to work 2nd shift Partial Relocation assistance is available.

Requirements

  • The selected candidate must be willing to work 2nd shift
  • Familiar with pressure transmitters, thermocouples, Resistive Temperature Devices (RTDs), Programable Logic Controls (PLCs) and device calibrations.
  • Ability to read Process and Instrumentation Diagrams and Electrical Schematics.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including navigating programs, running reports, entering calibration data, and using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Will be available to work overtime and weekends to support production (as required).
  • Understanding of basic principles of electricity (Ohm’s law) and ability to use a multimeter.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Instrumentation Technology or a related field, with industry experience in instrumentation measurements or device calibration.
  • Gas Turbine Package Experience and/or Test Cell experience.
  • Prior experience with and understanding of calibration tools and equipment such as pressure calibration equipment, shaker tables, oscilloscopes, and temperature probe hot boxes.
  • Knowledge of PLC programming for equipment control and data acquisition.
  • Experience with weather stations, gas chromatography, and emissions systems.
  • Experience with precision hand tool calibration
  • Understanding of error analysis, uncertainty methods/calculations, statistical and quality control methods, and ISO requirements, including ISO/IEC 17025.

Responsibilities

  • Understands, complies, and advocates company EHS procedures, frequently coaching others for safety.
  • Demonstrates sound technical judgment and troubleshooting skills to resolve complex technical problems.
  • Conducts calibration of test cell instrumentation and equipment, serving as a point of contact for validating equipment between calibration cycles.
  • Provides tooling calibration support as required.
  • Actively pursues opportunities to learn and train, mentoring junior technicians.
