About The Position

Kent is seeking Instrumentation Fitters to support an Oil & Gas project in Orange, TX. To be responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of instrumentation systems that monitor and control oil and gas processes. To ensure that instrumentation equipment, such as pressure, temperature, flow, and level sensors, as well as control systems, are functioning efficiently and safely. In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

Requirements

  • Technical diploma or certificate in Instrumentation, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • 3-5 years of experience as an Instrumentation Technician, ideally in the oil and gas industry or a related heavy industrial environment.
  • Proven hands-on experience with instrumentation systems, control valves, PLCs, and DCS systems.
  • Strong knowledge of process instrumentation systems, including sensors, transmitters, control valves, and analyzers.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency in the calibration, installation, and troubleshooting of instrumentation devices.
  • Comprehensive understanding of safety practices in hazardous environments, including hazardous area classifications, grounding, bonding, and explosion-proof equipment.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve complex instrumentation problems efficiently.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions under pressure.
  • Read, write, and speak fluent English, especially as required to function effectively within a project team and to communicate with project management, contractors, and subcontractors.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant certifications in instrumentation maintenance, such as those from ISA or similar organizations, are highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety certifications such as HAZWOPER, OSHA, or equivalent is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of instrumentation equipment, including pressure, temperature, flow, and level sensors, control valves, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Inspect, test, and calibrate control systems to ensure they meet industry standards and operational requirements.
  • Install, commission, and configure new instrumentation equipment as part of projects or upgrades.
  • Work with the engineering and project teams to ensure new installations are completed on time and according to specifications.
  • Ensure proper installation, wiring, and integration of instrumentation systems with control systems and Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures when performing work in potentially hazardous environments, such as high-pressure systems, chemicals, and confined spaces.
  • Follow industry regulations and standards, such as ISA (International Society of Automation) and IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), to ensure compliance with hazardous area classifications and proper grounding and bonding of equipment.
  • Participate in safety meetings and toolbox talks to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Diagnose instrumentation faults and perform repairs in a timely manner to ensure smooth and efficient operations and minimizing disruptions.
  • Analyze data and use diagnostic tools to pinpoint malfunctions or failures in instrumentation systems.
  • Work closely with operations and maintenance teams to ensure timely response to equipment breakdowns or malfunctions.
  • Maintain accurate records of instrumentation maintenance activities, including calibration logs, maintenance reports, and repair documentation.
  • Update technical documentation such as wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, and P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) to reflect changes made during installations or repairs.
  • Prepare and submit maintenance reports to the Instrumentation Supervisor or Maintenance Manager.
  • Work closely with other departments, including mechanical, electrical, and operations teams, to ensure smooth integration of instrumentation systems with plant operations
  • Provide technical support to team members and share knowledge on best practices for maintaining and troubleshooting instrumentation systems
  • Communicate effectively with management, team members, and vendors to ensure all tasks are completed on time and to the required standard.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance on instrumentation systems according to a planned maintenance schedule to ensure optimal performance and reduce the likelihood of unexpected failures.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of preventive maintenance strategies to improve equipment reliability.
