About The Position

PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Fitter is responsible for preparing, assembling, fitting, and aligning metal components prior to welding or final installation. This role requires a strong commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and precision, including the ability to read, accurately measure and mark materials, and ensure all assemblies meet project specifications and established quality standards. The Fitter upholds safety, accountability, and integrity by following approved work practices, maintaining organized work areas, and ensuring components are properly prepared to support safe and efficient welding and installation. Working closely with welders and site supervision, the Fitter demonstrates teamwork, clear communication, and respect, contributing to smooth workflow and successful project execution. Through attention to detail and a focus on continuous improvement, the Fitter supports reliable, high‑quality fabrication and installation while reinforcing the company’s standards, values, and reputation for excellence.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a Fitter in industrial, structural, or mechanical environments.
  • Strong ability to read blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols.
  • Proficiency with measuring tools and layout techniques.
  • Knowledge of fit‑up tolerances and preparation for welding.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and workmanship quality.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with carbon steel and structural steel components.
  • Ability to perform tack welding (certification preferred if required).
  • Experience supporting welding processes such as SMAW or FCAW.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Prior experience on industrial, government, or large commercial projects.

Responsibilities

  • Fitting & Assembly Measure, mark, cut, and fit metal components according to drawings and specifications.
  • Assemble piping, or mechanical components for welding.
  • Perform tack welding as required (if qualified).
  • Verify fit‑up, clearances, and dimensions before final welding or installation.
  • Blueprint Reading & Layout Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, isometrics, and prefabricated components Lay out materials using squares, levels, tapes, and measuring devices.
  • Identify discrepancies in drawings and report issues to supervision.
  • Tools & Equipment Operate hand tools, power tools, grinders, cutting torches, and measuring instruments safely.
  • Prep materials by grinding, beveling, grooving, cleaning, and removing defects.
  • Maintain tools and ensure equipment is in proper working condition.
  • Quality & Compliance Ensure fit‑ups meet project tolerances and quality standards.
  • Assist with inspections and resolve fit‑up issues prior to welding.
  • Follow company procedures, project requirements, and applicable codes.
  • Safety & Housekeeping Follow all jobsite safety procedures, including PPE and hot‑work requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Identify hazards and communicate issues promptly.
  • Coordination & Teamwork Work closely with welders, supervisors, and other trades.
  • Communicate clearly regarding material needs, progress, and field conditions.
  • Support project schedules and production goals.
