Summary We are seeking a reliable and skilled Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Technician to support the operation and maintenance of critical plant systems. This role involves hands-on work with advanced control platforms including Ovation, Foxboro Spec 200, and Rockwell PLCs. You'll be responsible for calibrating and troubleshooting instrumentation to ensure safe, efficient, and consistent performance. The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining high operational standards. Additionally, you'll work during planned outages every April and October with overtime opportunities available.

Requirements

  • Certification to ANSI/ANS 3.1, 4.5.2 (1978)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the Instrumentation and Controls field
  • At least 1 year of related technical training, or successful completion of the PVNGS I+C Apprentice Program
  • Exposure to industrial work environments, including shift work and overtime, as required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • EEI MASS Test administered
  • Any PVNGS employee may be called upon to serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) and will be expected to fulfill their obligation as an ERO member.
  • This is a condition of employment at PVNGS.
  • Roles and Responsibilities defined in Policy 1503 and implementing policy guide are applicable to all PVNGS employees.
  • Any PVNGS employee may be called upon to support a refueling or short-notice outage.
  • This includes line roles and responsibilities as necessary to execute outage activities.
  • This position may require access to and/or use of information subject to control under the Department of Energy's Part 810 Regulations (10 CFR Part 810), the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) (15 CFR Parts 730 through 774), or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) (22 CFR Chapter I, Subchapter M Part 120 ) (collectively, U.S. Export Control Laws).
  • Therefore, this position requires applicants to be a U.S. person, which is defined as a U.S. Citizen, a U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), a Political Asylee, or a Refugee under the U.S. Export Control Laws. Nice To Haves

  • Nuclear power plant experience
  • 5+ years of experience in industrial instrumentation and controls maintenance
  • Experience with Ovation, Foxboro Spec 200, and Rockwell PLCs
  • Experience in industrial environments such as oil & gas, water/wastewater, manufacturing, energy, or mining
  • ISA Certification (CCST or similar) a plus
  • Experience with calibration tools and asset management software
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Instrumentation or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • Strong understanding of electrical, pneumatic, analog, and digital control systems
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, and electrical schematics
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Excellent safety record and attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, calibrate, and configure a wide range of process instrumentation, including flow, level, pressure, and temperature sensors, switches, control valves, and other field devices using industry-standard tools.
  • Calibrate loop controllers (Foxboro and Fisher Wizards).
  • Troubleshoot and repair control systems including Foxboro Spec 200, Ovation and Rockwell PLCs.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs.
  • Perform loop checks and instrument diagnostics.
  • Accurately maintain documentation and records of repairs, calibrations, and maintenance activities.
  • Assist with system upgrades and commissioning.
  • Work with engineering to improve system reliability and efficiency.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on control systems.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  • Calibrates, function tests, troubleshoots, rework, modifies, and inspects plant equipment in accordance with technical specifications station administrative control procedures and quality requirements.
  • Attendance in and completion of scheduled technical training.
  • Ability to utilize knowledge gained to meet Safety, Quality and Excellence expectations of PVNGS.
  • Actively works at becoming independently qualified to work on all plant equipment. This is done through formal training and actively pursuing On the Job Training under JOS program.
  • Maintains proficiency in the care and usage of a wide variety of Measuring and Test Equipment.
  • Documentation of work using, and in compliance with, work control, surveillance, and Administrative Control Procedures.
  • Acquires skill in mainframe computer system usage for generation of work requests, update status of work orders, part searches, and archive history of equipment.
  • Maintains certification to work independently.
