About The Position

Penn Dental Medicine’s Family Practice (PDFP) is interested in hiring an Instrument Sterilization Attendant to broaden their skill sets and gain valuable experience in the dental field. As a member of the PDFP family, individuals are provided the opportunity to work alongside a team whose mission is to provide quality dental care which exceeds patient expectations. The ideal candidate must be ready to have a voice on a highly collaborative team, seek to learn and improve upon patient service and clinical practice, and possess a positive attitude. Penn Dental Family Practice is comprised of over 35 doctors, 15 dental hygienists, 22 dental assistants, and 17 staff. Together, the team works collaboratively to provide multi-specialty care utilizing leading techniques in patient care. The Instrument Sterilization Attendant is responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, identification, and assembly of all the dental instruments used throughout the Penn Dental Family Practice clinics. The Attendant must be able to select the correct method of sterilization of instruments and will be required to learn how to operate the various types of sterilization equipment utilized in the department. Additional responsibilities include delivery and inventory of equipment to and from the various practices.

Requirements

  • An Associate's Degree or two year college equivalent and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required (for Instrument Sterilization Tech B).
  • Must be able to push or pull up to 150 lbs.
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to follow detailed oral and written instructions.
  • Be able to multi-task between responsibilities, to accurately complete assigned task in a fast-paced working environment.
  • Flexibility with work schedules required; clinic coverage may be staggered between the hours of 7:00AM - 7:00PM (Monday through Friday).
  • Flexibility with Saturday and overtime work coverage required.
  • Occasional weekend and/or overtime work required.

Responsibilities

  • Decontamination, sterilization, cleaning, identification, and assembly of all the dental instruments used throughout the Penn Dental Family Practice clinics.
  • Issue/collect instrument supplies and laboratory equipment utilizing scanning equipment.
  • Learn how to operate and perform maintenance of the various types of sterilization equipment utilized by the department.
  • Delivery and inventory of equipment to and from the various practices.
  • Cross-train and rotate to work in instrument dispensing areas of assigned practices.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Provide and maintain expertise in innovative solutions focused on the responsible stewardship of Penn Dental Medicine and its community experience.
