About The Position

Instrument Specialist Department: 37719 Advocate Lutheran General Hospital - Sterile Processing Services Status: Full time Benefits Eligible: Yes Hours Per Week: 40 Schedule Details/Additional Information: 8-4:30pm, no holidays, no weekends Pay Range $22.90 - $34.35 EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Two years' experience in Sterile Processing required. LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: Certification as a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or other sterile processing certification required. Certification as a Surgical Instrument Specialist required within one year of hire. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Coordinates the repair of instruments with appropriate vendor and maintains a log for tracking items set off-site. 2. Coordinates the maintenance of instrument sets by assessing surgical case schedule and deducing which instruments can be removed from circulation. 3. Coordinates the procurement of and return of loaner, vendor, and/or trial instrument sets. 4. Orders new and replacement supplies and instruments based on inventory, par levels, iShare requests, and at the direction of the Manager of Sterile Processing while striving to adhere to departmental budgets. 5. Assists with resolving product and/or instrument recalls as quickly as possible to promote patient care. 6. Maintains the department's instrument tracking system by entering new instruments into system and building count sheets. 7. Collaborates with SPD Liaisons to ensure sets are available and complete. 8. Uses excellent communication skills when discussing instrument availability with SPD Supervisors, SPD Liaisons, and/or OR Clinical Coordinators. 9. Expert in all aspects of the sterile processing cycle and ability to provide guidance and education to SPD. 10. Assists with special projects and interdepartmental committees as needed. 11. Assists with Sterile Processing staffing as needed. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
