The Instrument Processing Technician is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of all areas of the Ambulatory Surgery Center which includes operating rooms, pre-op area, PACU, ECF areas, storage areas and shipping/receiving. All areas should be kept clean and within the standards required for patient care. Assist surgical technicians in instrument cleaning, sterilization, storage as well as stock surgical supplies. Assist RN's in the delivery of safe, effective and quality patient-centered care of patients in the preoperative setting for all patient populations; provide age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice.

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience with patient care and/or surgical instrumentation processing.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in nursing, healthcare administration, or related field is a plus.
  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Practice Management and Electronic Medical Records; Human Resource systems, Inventory software, Internet Software, Order Processing systems, Payroll systems, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified or Registered Central Service Certification preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Care: Check in patients to pre-operative area. Act as an advocate for the patient. Provide consistent, age-specific, culturally competent, and ethical care.
  • Instrument Care: Decontaminate, disinfect, clean, wrap/package and sterilize and store surgical instruments according to established protocol.
  • Perioperative Area: Maintaining cleanliness and preparation of the perioperative areas per AORN standards.
  • Emergency Care: Respond to life saving situations based upon polices, procedures, and protocol.
