The Instrumentation Engineering Specialist leads the calibration, build, diagnostic, repair & associated operational activities for precision instrumentation used for Thermal Performance Testing and supports field testing/data collection from customers’ power plants for both commercial and internal purposes.

  • Minimal Subject Matter Expert for one (1) out of (9) Calibrations stations within Performance Lab.
  • Leads the Test and calibration of controlling, indicating and measuring instruments and devices, such as pressure transmitters, temperature controls, Thermocouples, RTD’s, thermometers and power load measurement devices.
  • Manages and completes Measurement Assurance Program (MAP) activities as required for SME station.
  • Responsible for directing/OJT training for new technicians.
  • Facilitates all required maintenance and calibration of Lab Reference Standards.
  • Responsible to assist Engineering with traceability.
  • Responsible for all process and Quality documentation SME area(s) and proficient with quality control manual and testing specifications to obtain data to test or calibrate specific devices.
  • Selects and installs accessories such as adapters, indicating gauges, or holding devices on test or calibration fixture, and connects the instrument or device to a lab primary standard.
  • Sets controls to regulate factors such as current flow, timing cycle, pressure, temperature or vacuum according to specifications and activates test of calibration equipment.
  • Observes reading on meters and gauges and other displays and performance of device or instrument to identify functional defects and determine calibration requirements & Adjusts calibration mechanisms to obtain specified operational performance of device or instrument.
  • Identify defective instrumentation and lead root cause investigation and implementation of CAPA through engagement with Lab leaders.
  • Responsible to support all Lab operational processes across instrumentation maintenance, prepping, packing, returning items to inventory (Kanban), Kanban level maintenance and 5S activities.
  • Provide hands on support for thermal performance testing of gas turbines.
  • Accountable for the quality of the data collected from customers’ power plants for both commercial and internal purposes.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's in an Engineering, Instrumentation Degree, Military Calibration or Minimum of 2 years of industry experience and familiarity calibration/used for thermal performance testing and evaluation.
  • Ability to work overtime (including weekends).
  • Willingness and ability to travel (approximately 20%) to mainly domestic power plant sites in support of testing. The duration of the field tests ranges from one (1) to (3) weeks/1-2 jobs per year.
  • Understanding of instrumentation principles, their physics principles, calibration, installation requirements, operation, communications, and troubleshooting.
  • Broadening knowledge of own technical discipline to execute calibration.
  • Instrumentation training in: Control systems, industrial environments, calibration facilities and processes.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform minor electrical repairs on instrumentation.
  • Excellent mechanical and electrical skills with familiarity with mA and mV measurements.
