About The Position

The School of Architecture at the University of Detroit Mercy invites applicants for a full-time Instructor position. This position is focused on candidates who are excited to bring an emphasis on the dynamics of design development to the studio and the classroom. The successful candidate will have past experience teaching design studios (including examples of an emphasis on design development or comprehensive design) and will lead a required upper level Integrated Design Studio. In addition, successful candidates ideally will be interested in teaching required courses in one of the three areas related to building technology and tectonics: construction, structures, or environmental technology. We hope for candidates who have a forward thinking perspective towards both current and innovative architectural technologies. A part-time appointment in the School’s Detroit Collaborative Design Center may also be a possibility.

Requirements

  • A masters degree or higher in architecture
  • must have some previous teaching experience, with evidence of expertise as described above

Nice To Haves

  • experience in professional practice will be considered favorably
  • Design-build experience may also be an asset
